NEXTECH KC FAQ

KCGAMEON started as a LAN (Local Area Network) party in 2005. Originally a small group of co-workers who packed up their computers from home (BYOC = Bring your own computer), set up their rigs by plugging into a local network, and would play games until their eyes bleed. A lot of things have changed since those days, which quickly expanded to 30 players.

Over the last few years we have grown our event in attendance while also including all forms of gaming/fun - PC, console, hand-held gaming, tabletop and D&D adventures/pathfinder.

Both men and women attend these events both casually and competitively. We rotate tournaments for various games as the popularity for the games increase and decrease over time. Some of these tournaments have prizes, but some of them are just for bragging rights, too.

We provide food (dinner is around 6pm) and snacks/drinks/candy throughout the event as part of the attendance fee.

There are somewhere between 4 and 6 events each year - single day events (KCGameOn) and one multiday event (NEXTECH KC). They are roughly 6-8 weeks apart. We try to adjust our dates to miss all major events in KC as well as major holidays. Check the SCHEDULE page for the actual dates. We release the dates as soon as we get the venues locked in place. The events are typically Feb, April, June, August and Oct/November.

The cost per event is found on our registration page for each event. Our website has a home-grown, secure payment system that uses paypal. This provides us a low-cost, low-overhead solution to automating the payment/seating process.

You also have the option to pay cash at the check-in table as you walk in the door - but this does not guarantee you a seat. We always recommend you pre-pay to reserve a seat/saving a lot of time when you get to the event.

The walk-in fee applies to everyone, including BYOC, tabletop, console gaming and spectators.

We know that in order to retain players over time, we must provide value for all who attend.

Unfortunately we can't cover everything with sponsorship, but we try our best to limit the price of tickets, comparabily so, to the same type of event in other cities.

The staff does not make a dime as we are all volunteers. The event does not exist to make money off of the gamer - we are only here to network and above all - HAVE FUN!

Security is always a major concern at every event we host and respected as such. We have a hired security staff that will be walking around the venue and parking lot for the entire of the event to monitor all activity, including the entry ways, leading up to checking bags, if we feel necessary.

We have a fully functional, tested, digital raffle system and once you check-in through our front desk registration area, you are automatically entered into the raffle. All you have to do is be around when we hold the raffle to claim your prize, when you name is called.

KCGameOn will have it's end of the year raffle which we consider the loyalty raffle. For all events you attended during 2019, you will have a digital raffle ticket. Your chances are determined by the amount of prizes and amount of tickets currently in the pool of tickets - that number has yet to be determined. The prizes/swag depend largely on our current sponsors and how many we purchase out right, but typically it is 40-50 door prizes, with the possibility of many more and much higher value prizes for this event.

Please see our current sponsor list, shown HERE.

We try to get additional sponsors all the time, so this is always changing.

Kansas City's Tech Expo featuring emerging and future technolgoies. Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computers and Esports are among the features inspiring all ages. Programs for students, as well as, the general public will be offered during the event.

This is largely dependent on user interest. Fortuntely/Unfortunately there is a large swing in which games are the most popular at the end of every year. We take our experience from past events over the year and determine how many people are interested and if there is a playerbase to support each tournament.

This page will contain all of the tournaments and their start times, when they are ready to be published.

If you have a favorite game and you want to get a tournament going that is not on the list, just let us know and we will see what we can do to accomodate and get signups going at the registration desk.

Let me refer you over to our 'what to bring' FAQ.

We need a minimum of 30 person pay for the event fee. We have had to cancel events in the past, but it has been many, many years since we did. :)

Take a look at the schedule page for a long history of attendence counts.
